2024 Senior Tournament Preview

The New York State American Legion Baseball Senior Division Championship Tournament returns Saturday July 27th- Wednesday July 30th. The tournament has a new home this season as the games will be played at the newly remodeled Conlon Field in Binghamton.

In the last state tournament, Greece Post 468 defeated Brounshidle Post 205 by a score of 7-6 to claim their second straight Championship. Greece Post 468 returns again this year to try for a three-peat. If they are successful, they will become only the 2nd program in NY American Legion Baseball history to win more than two in a row joining the Rockland Pirates, who won 3 in a row from 2016-2018 and won 5 in a row from 1990-1994.

 

Meet the teams:

4th District

The Clinton County Mariners from Plattsburgh and sponsored by Post 1619 return to the tournament for the 11th consecutive time. The Mariners, led by Manager Gary Duquette and Coach Billy Hunt went undefeated in their District Tournament sweeping the Malone Border Hounds two games to zero. They have an overall record of 24-12-1.

5th District

Henry P Smith Post 24 returns to the tournament again this season for the first time since 2021 when they finished as the State runner up. Smith Post defeated Utica Post 229 3-1 in the district championship game to complete an undefeated tournament going 5-0. The team also finished in first place during the regular season with a 14-3 record to earn the top seed in the district tournament. Smith Post is from Rome and are led by Manager Ryan Hickey. They have an overall record of 23-3.

6th District

Endicott Post 82 captured the 6th District Championship this year for the first time since they were State Champions in 2014. Endicott finished district play 12-0-2 to claim the regular season title. The team then defeated Otego Post 259 two games to none to claim the district title. Endicott is led by manager Matt Ferraro and has an overall record of 13-4-2.

7th District

Two-time defending NYS Champion Greece Post 468 lead by manager Nelson Madrid and coach Jim Capellupo captured their 3rd consecutive 7th District title by defeating Irondequoit Post 134 10-0 & 2-1 in the final series. Greece Post finished in first place during regular season play going and impressive 17-1.  They have an overall record of 20-1.

8th District

Alfred J Jurek Post 1672 are the Champions of the 8th District. Jurek Post, from East Amherst, defeated Hamburg Post 527 3-1 to claim the district title 2 games to 1 in the best of 3 championship series. Jurek Post is managed by Kyle Schaufstetter finished the regular season as the top seed and after dropping the first game in both semi- finals and finals rallied back to win both series. This is the first District title since 2012 for Jurek Post 1672 who has an overall record of 15-6.

9th District

Orange County Outlaws Post 1167 are back representing the 9th District as the champions. The Outlaws, from the Chester area, defeated Rockland Pirates Post 130 to claim the title. After being forced to a winner take all championship game, the Outlaws held off the Pirates 4-3 to claim their second title in a row.  Orange County is led by manager Joe Laura and finished the district tournament with a 3-1 record.
