UTICA, N.Y.-- New York State American Legion Baseball has announced the return of the New York State Junior Legion Championship to Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field in Utica, July 28-30.
Historic Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field is the current home of the Utica Blue Sox in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. The stadium served as the home of a minor league baseball team from 1976-2001 including affiliates of the Florida Marlins, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays.
The New York State Junior Legion Championship is a four team double elimination format. The tournament field is composed of the District Champions from districts 4, 5, 6 and 9.
The winner of this year’s state championship will advance to the Northeast Regional in West Warrick, RI on August 4-6.
American Junior Legion Baseball is made up of players ages 17 and under. Last year’s New York State Junior Champions were Whitestown Post 1113.
